I.B.M. Ring 280 Youth is the highly respected junior branch of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (I.B.M.). The global membership of the I.B.M. actively supports this dynamic youth focused program to promote, educate and enhance the activities of talented young magicians around the world.
The Ring 280 Magic Youth is a free program is open to youth, ages 7-17. Parents must be present at all times. Children cannot be dropped off. We ask those planning to attend a meeting to RSVP to email@example.com.
Unless otherwise noted, we meet at 11:00 a.m. on the second Saturday of the month at the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley 24909 Newhall Avenue Newhall, CA 91321. Our meetings typically run one hour long.
Our March meeting will be held on Saturday, March 8th, from 11am-12pm at the Boys and Girls Club. The theme for March is “Routining.” We will be sharing ideas of how you can string together a series of effects and tricks to make them into a presentation and show.
January marks the one-year anniversary of the Ring 280 Magic Youth.
Our theme for January is “school magic.” Show us magic you could do when you are at school. (But not during class!)
January 11 from 11am-12pm at the Boys & Girls Club in Newhall. See you there!
Because the Boys and Girls Club is holding a boutique the second weekend in December, we will not be meeting in the month of December. Instead, all Youth Magic members are welcome to attend our annual holiday party on Saturday, December 7th. Please see more information about the holiday party in this month’s newsletter. We will resume our meeting and celebrate our 1-year anniversary in January!
On December 12 we will be having a magicians swap meet. Whether you are buying, selling or both, it's free. Join us at 7:30 pm at the Boys & Girls Club.
Our November meeting is scheduled for Saturday, November 9th from 11am-12pm at the Boys & Girls Club.
Our theme is “It's the Festival of Trees: What Could You Do?” The idea is simple: for the many years, Ring 280 has supported the local Boys & Girls Club by volunteering to perform magic at their annual Festival of Trees. See more information about the volunteering in the article “Giving Back to the Community and Earning Mark Wilson Dollars” elsewhere in the newsletter.
We are also producing two different magic shows this year. So at our November meeting, I’d like to talk about some performance opportunities our youth members have at the Festival (for both strolling and close-up magic, as well as the full stage shows). We will also be teaching some more magic out of Mark Wilson’s Complete Course in Magic book.
About the Festival of Trees
The Festival of Trees is a fundraising event for the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley. A visit to the Festival is a great way to kick off the holiday season. Not only can you view the many beautiful and elaborately decorated trees which are available for purchase, but you can also purchase small tabletop trees, holiday wreaths, stockings, and charming one-of-a-kind gingerbread houses. Large trees range in height from six to nine feet, and many come with gifts including furniture, event tickets, wine, jewelry, and more.
Ring 280 Youth – Change of Date For Our October Meeting
Our next Ring 280 Youth meeting will be held on the first Saturday of the
month – October 5th – from 11am to 12pm. (Our usual Youth meeting day,
which is the following Saturday the 12th, happens to be the date of the Magic
Castle Swap Meet, so we are meeting a week earlier so as not to interfere
Our meeting theme for October is Halloween magic, so come prepared to
watch some fun Halloween-themed magic, and be sure to bring your own to
share as well. We will also have some fun Halloween-themed magic to learn.
See you on October 5th!
Our next Ring 280 Magic Youth meeting is scheduled for Sept. 14 from 11am-12pm at the Boys and Girls Club in Newhall.
September will be a workshop entitled: “The one magic trick I can perform well.” Come prepared to show us your one trick, and if you don’t have one, we will teach you one to work on. This is in preparation for Day for Kids, where we want our Ring 280 Youth to be there performing – even if it is one trick. (The magic doesn’t have to be out of Mark’s book.)
Our next meeting is scheduled for August 10th from 11am-12pm. We will continue to work on Sleights with Coins as well as some new effects from Mark’s book, and hope to see some new performances.
Our next Ring 280 Youth meeting is Saturday, July 13 from 11am-12pm. We will continue to learn new magic from Mark Wilson’s Complete Course in Magic, an inexpensive yet great book, available from many bookstores including Amazon.com. See you on the 13th
The next Ring 280 Magic Youth meeting is Saturday, June 8 from 11am-12pm.
The theme for this month is " The Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic."
If you are planning to attend Saturday's meeting, please drop RSVP by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
The next Ring 280 Magic Youth meeting will be held on Saturday, May 11th, from 11am-12pm at the Boys and Girls Club in Newhall (our regular meeting location). The meeting theme is: "Magic Returns in May".
With no Magic Youth meeting in April, I can't wait to get the ball rolling again with our May meeting. Our hour-long youth magic meeting is focused on two things: watching and learning. Join us on May 11th as we begin our new meeting format. The meeting starts with 20 minutes of magic, as Ring 280 members share some of their favorite magic routines. The rest of the meeting will be about learning magic. Instead of teaching a magic trick and moving on to the next agenda item, we will spend time teaching, practicing, and performing a trick. Everyone should leave the meeting with the ability to perform 1-2 magic effects. I look forward to seeing you there!
