Saturday, July 24, 2010 4th Annual Magic Show Entertains Young, Old Santa Clarita (Aug. 2,
2010) – The seats were filled with bright-eyed inquisitive youngsters as
well as elderly citizens and all ages in between. Ring 280 of the
International Brotherhood of Magicians put on two spectacular
shows—including close-up routines as well as a stage show—at West Ranch
High School theater on July 24. Proceeds benefited the Boys & Girls
Club of Santa Clarita Valley. Within the first five
minutes of the show, two live doves and a rabbit were magically
produced. The audience also witnessed the transformation of an invisible
dog to a visible one and the splitting of a young girl in half. The
show ended with the levitation of a woman. Newhall resident Lourdes
Castaneda went to the evening show with her sister, teenage nephews, and
a neighbor. They all enjoyed the performances. “The stage show was
impressive and ran smoothly. Each performer was unique, too,” she said. Saugus resident Debbie
Shick attended the show for the second year with her family. She enjoyed
watching the young performers as well as the professionals. Her
favorite part was Ron Saylor’s floating table although she also liked
how numerous magicians were introduced at the start of the show. The magic show raised
just under $1,000 for the Boys & Girls Club. Attendance was down
from previous years when it was held in the springtime. Bryan Lake,
director of administration for the Club and also a member of Ring 280,
said that the magicians would evaluate the timing of the show for next
year and will also look for an event sponsor. “Although we didn’t get
the numbers we wanted, we felt the show was a success,” Lake said.
“When you see the expressions on the kids’ faces—and even the adults—as
they try to figure out the magic, it makes it all worthwhile for the
magicians. We love performing.” The Boys & Girls Club
of Santa Clarita Valley is a member of the Boys & Girls Club of
America. The local Club was formed in 1968 by a group of community
leaders who recognized the need for high-quality programs and facilities
at affordable costs for area young people. The Boys & Girls Club of
Santa Clarita Valley now serves more than 2,700 youth, ages 7-17, at
facilities in Newhall, Canyon Country and Val Verde. Programs engage
members in education and career exploration, the arts, sports,
recreation and fitness, character and leadership development, and
healthy life choices. For more information, visit www.scvkids.org. The International
Brotherhood of Magicians (I.B.M.) is the world’s largest organization
